This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies StoreColoni uses, and how you can control them. It applies to the StoreColoni platform website (storecoloni.com) and to storefronts hosted on subdomains (e.g., yourshop.storecoloni.com).
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, and provide information to website owners. Cookies can be:
- Session cookies — temporary files deleted when you close your browser
- Persistent cookies — remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them
- First-party cookies — set by the website you are visiting
- Third-party cookies — set by a domain other than the one you are visiting
2. Cookies on the StoreColoni Platform (storecoloni.com)
| Cookie Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
connect.sid | Essential — First-party | Session management. Keeps you logged in to your Vendor dashboard. Without this cookie the platform cannot function. | Session (deleted on browser close) |
_scc | Functional — First-party | Remembers whether a storefront visitor has accepted or declined the cookie consent banner. | 1 year |
We do not use advertising or profiling cookies on the main StoreColoni website.
3. Cookies on Vendor Storefronts
Each storefront hosted at yourshop.storecoloni.com may use additional cookies depending on the tools the Vendor has enabled:
3.1 Essential Cookies (Always Active)
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
_scc | Stores the visitor's cookie consent choice so they are not asked repeatedly | 1 year |
3.2 Analytics Cookies (If Enabled by Vendor)
If a Vendor has integrated Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel), Meta may set the following cookies:
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_fbp | Meta (Facebook) | Used by Facebook to identify browsers for delivering advertisements and site analytics | 90 days |
_fbc | Meta (Facebook) | Stores the last time you clicked on a Facebook ad | 2 years |
Meta Pixel is only active on a storefront if the Vendor has entered a Pixel ID in their marketing settings. Meta's use of this data is governed by Meta's Privacy Policy.
3.3 WhatsApp Integration
When a Buyer clicks "Order via WhatsApp", they are redirected to wa.me (WhatsApp's website). WhatsApp may set its own cookies subject to WhatsApp's Privacy Policy. StoreColoni has no control over these cookies.
4. Legal Basis for Cookies
We use cookies based on the following legal grounds:
- Essential cookies — used on the basis of legitimate interest and contract performance. These are required for the Platform to function and no consent is required.
- Analytics and marketing cookies (third-party, set by Vendors) — used only with the Buyer's consent, obtained through the cookie consent banner on each storefront.
This approach is consistent with:
- Nigeria's NDPR guidelines on lawful basis of data processing
- South Africa's POPIA provisions on consent and conditions for lawful processing
- Kenya's Data Protection Act Section 30 (conditions for processing)
- Ghana's Data Protection Act 2012 data processing requirements
- EU GDPR Article 6 and the ePrivacy Directive (for EU visitors)
5. How to Manage Cookies
5.1 Cookie Consent Banner
When you visit a StoreColoni storefront for the first time, a cookie consent banner will appear (if enabled by the Vendor). You can:
- Accept — allow all cookies including any analytics/marketing cookies the Vendor has configured
- Decline — only essential cookies will be used; analytics and marketing cookies will not be set
Your choice is saved for 1 year. You can change it at any time by clearing your browser's local storage (see Section 5.2).
5.2 Browser Controls
You can manage and delete cookies through your browser settings. Instructions for common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
- Mobile (Android/iOS): Browser app Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data
Note: disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in to the Vendor dashboard or using the shopping cart on storefronts.
5.3 Opt-Out of Meta Pixel
If a storefront uses Meta Pixel and you wish to opt out of Facebook/Meta tracking across the web, you can:
- Install the Facebook Off-Facebook Activity opt-out tool
- Use browser extensions such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger
- Enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in supported browsers
6. Do Not Track
Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals websites not to track you. StoreColoni respects DNT signals: we do not use tracking cookies on our platform beyond session management. For third-party cookies set by Vendors (e.g., Meta Pixel), DNT compliance depends on the third-party's policy.
7. Country-Specific Notices
South African users: You have the right under POPIA to object to the processing of your personal information for direct marketing purposes, which includes cookie-based advertising. Contact us at privacy@storecoloni.com to exercise this right.
Nigerian users: Under the NDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your data. Our use of strictly necessary cookies does not require your consent but all other processing is subject to your right of objection.
Kenyan users: Under Kenya's Data Protection Act 2019, you have the right to object to automated processing. Our essential cookies do not engage in automated decision-making that significantly affects you.
8. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add new features or in response to changes in law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We will notify Vendors of material changes via the dashboard and email.
